Chapter Thirteen
Slickâs test results were finally back, the doctor wanted to see him to tell him the results. Even though he was a little hesitant to go, he knew his father wouldnât rest until he got a clear answer. With all the work he had to distribute to his remaining workers, he was burning the candle on both ends. Since Tee decided to quit, the operation was officially a one-man show.
Considering that Slick sacrificed a few of the lower ranked workers, the other ones were a bit skittish. According to the news report, by the time the police got there, it resembled the wild-wild west. Bullets and bodies were dropping everywhere. While he was sneaking out around back, his diversions were being dealt with. The person he had as the getaway driver had taken off just as he expected. That being said, he turned out to be the perfect asset to place the blame on.
By telling the remaining crew that Steve drove away fouling up the entire plan, everybody blamed him for the deaths. Of course, no one would take the word of a coward so he was an easy scapegoat. The plot to send him to an early grave was settled from a close friend of the deceased. He and his cohorts wasted no time dealing with the driver. It was perfect that everyone that would be alive to tell of his foul plan was no more.
âWhere have you been?â His father started ranting as soon as he crossed the threshold. âI have been calling your for days.â
âBusiness as usual,â he answered him blandly. He didnât feel up to hearing the old man complain today.
âBusiness, as if I wouldnât prefer to be handling business. In case it keeps slipping your mind, I am on a time schedule here. I have a noose around my neck and you donât seem to give a damn.â His father went on and on, Slick was growing really tired of his mouth. That was when he noticed they werenât alone.
âArenât you going to introduce me to your company?â Slick asked eyeing the woman sitting beside the bed. She looked awfully familiar. The man sitting with a protective hand around her waist brandished a menacing stare like no other. It was clear he didnât want to be there anymore than Slick did.
âIn due season,â was the only reply.
âOh great, Iâm glad everyone is here.â The doctor walked into the room right on time. Slick wanted his results so he knew what his next step would be. He wasnât sure he wanted to save this bastards life but it sure made for an interesting bargaining chip.
âTell me something good doc.â
âI do have news but unfortunately it isnât so good.â The doctor stalled. âYour son has proven to be a perfect match but upon further inspection, his organs are not fit to be a donor.â
âWhat does that mean?â
âWhat that simply means is that his organs have damage from years of smoking and drinking. The organs would not sustain your life.
